It is with great sadness that we share the news of Rich Nelson’s passing. A friend to many and a great supporter of Branching Out, he will be very missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

It is with sadness that we share Rich Nelson, Treasurer for NYSA, passed away on August 11 in Bergen, Norway.
Rich was a family man, friend, and a consummate professional, eager to give back to the arborist community. He was active with the Long Island Arboricultural Association (LIAA) and a Board Governor for NYSA, before taking over as NYSA Treasurer for the last several years.
In 2023, Rich was given the NYSA President’s Award by John Wickes which recognizes outstanding service by a volunteer. Rich will be deeply missed as a long-serving member of the Board, who touched all facets of the organization. From greeting people at the registration table to running “head and tails” at the Annual meeting, Rich was a friendly face and an indispensable presence at every conference.
Final arrangements are still in progress. We will be sure to share more information as it becomes available.
