Spotted Lanternfly Update

Known Distribution of Spotted Lanternfly in NY State, June 2022

As reported in Issue 8 of Branching Out, Frank Buccello provided a recent update (https://tinyurl.com/99tznt9j) noting new infestations in Middletown and nearby in Chester, NY. Inspectors are finding 100s of nymphs in Binghamton, Newburgh, Highland. Infestations in Port Jervis; a few nymphs were found in Ithaca where adults were found last fall. Reports of nymphs are coming in from all over Westchester and there are lanternflies all around NYC boroughs. On Long Island, new infestations have not been found east of the Bohemia area where SLF was detected last fall. NYS Dept. of Ag and USDA APHIS staff are using mass trapping in some areas to suppress populations; in other area traps are being used primarily for detection. See PDF map for SLF locations.
